Hip Bursitis
Hip Bursitis occurs when there is inflammation in one or more of the Bursa Sac(s) of the Hip/Hip Region. A Bursa Sac is a fluid filled sac that lays in the joint to cushion/absorb shock and help decrease friction between moving parts. Hip Bursitis can occur from many different things, but most commonly occurs from overuse and/or compensation. Repetitive use of the hip – constant bending over, being in and out of a squat position, carrying weighted items consistently, and sedentary positions can cause pressure, friction, and inflammation to build into the hip region over time which leads to an excess of pressure onto the joint and bursa which leads to inflammation in these tissues.
Symptoms of Hip Bursitis are but not limited to: Achiness, Stiffness, sometimes Sharp Shooting pain, pain on movement of affected area sometimes disabling pain, redness, and swelling. These symptoms can cause serious limitations to movement which can lead to inability to perform work tasks and sometimes daily tasks. If left untreated the pain can increase in intensity, create major joint limitations and problems, as well as begin to affect other joints up and down the affected areas movement patterns.
The best course of action for this issue is to seek professional expertise. A good clinician will be able to evaluate, diagnose and build a treatment plan. Our main goal for Hip Bursitis is to decrease pain and create better function in the area. Once we accomplish this we then begin building stability back into the are to support and take pressure off of the injury. Once stability is achieved we can begin building strength to help improve function to its fullest capabilities as well as help with prevention of future injury.
