Pelvic Unleveling

Pelvic Unleveling happens when there is an imbalance in the muscles of the low back, pelvis, and hips.  Along with the muscular imbalance, there can be a structural imbalance in joints(restrictions of joint movement) that cause the muscles to overcompensate.  This would affect how the pelvis moves, possibly causing an anterior tilt to the pelvis, posterior tilt to the pelvis, and sometimes will cause one hip to be higher or lower than the other.

Symptoms that occur with pelvic unleveling are pain in the lower back, pelvis, hips, muscular tightness and cramping in the muscles of the lower back, glutes(butt), hip flexors, quads, and hamstrings, to name a few.  When this issue occurs we will sometimes feel a pinching in the lower back and pelvis when bending forward.  People also notice that they feel crocked in their hips, their feet don’t line up properly, and their gait may be off rhythm.

The best course of action for this issue is to find a professional that can properly evaluate, diagnose, and build a treatment plan specifically for this issue.  With this issue our main goal would be to find what is causing the imbalance to the pelvis, decrease the muscular and/or joint irritation.  Then begin to work on stabilizing the low back, pelvis, and hips with stretches and mobility work.  And finally, build strength in the area to help create proper balance to the imbalance allowing for long term relief and prevention from reoccurance.

  1. Evaluate & Diagnose the problem to build a specific individualized treatment plan.

  2. Decrease the pain and improve function of the issue.

  3. Stabilize and strengthen the area to prevent further and future injury to the area.

  4. Build a Self-Care program for the individual to manage the problem on their own.

At Feroce Spine & Rehabilitation we take a 4-step approach.
